  1. How can NKY Career Jumpstart help educators?

    NKY Career Jumpstart gives you access to the KDE Work-Based Learning (WBL) Manual, which houses all the required documentation you need to organize/coordinate the various WBL opportunities listed.  

    NKY Career Jumpstart houses many of the WBL opportunities offered by local businesses. It's a great tool for you to use when helping students find local options. It is also a resource to find classroom speakers, company tours, and other school-day learning opportunities.

     

  2. How can I help my students?

    We recommend you spend time reviewing opportunities with your students. Students have also been told to talk to the appropriate school contact before pursuing any opportunity that occurs during the school day to confirm they are able and ready to take advantage of the opportunity. Also, many employers have listed their availability to participate in school-based opportunities such as classroom speaking, career fairs, and company tours. Reach out directly to these employers to take advantage of these offerings.

  3. What does NKY Career Jumpstart look for in Work-Based Learning opportunities?

    NKY Career Jumpstart emphasizes strong connections between work and learning. Employers should expect career seekers to be in a formative stage, exploring options for their long-term career development.   4. How does NKY Career Jumpstart ensure quality opportunities?

    The NKY Career Jumpstart team reviews all new employer registrations in order to ensure that the employer is a legitimate organization with the potential to offer high-quality experiences within Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky. However, there is no ongoing monitoring of the opportunities listed. If you learn of a problem with an employer and/or specific opportunity, reach out to NKYWorks@NKADD.org or call 859.657-WRKS (9757) to discuss. 

  5. Are Work-Based Learning experiences paid?

    The opportunities posted on MyCareerE3 include both paid and unpaid opportunities - co-ops and apprenticeships are always paid, while internships can be paid or unpaid. MyCareerE3 strongly encourages employers to offer compensation to students completing long-term work-based learning opportunities. Be sure to review what the Department of Labor has to say about this issue.

  6. Can students receive credit for their Work-Based Learning experiences?

    It's up to you. The school should decide if a student should receive credit for their Work-Based Leanrning experience. Students are encouraged to talk directly to their career/guidance counselor about the credit worthiness of each WBL before completing it. Please be aware that many WBL opportunities on the site are intended for general career exploration and may not be comprehensive enough to warrant school credit.

  7. Where are the opportunities located?

    MyCareerE3 lists opportunities throughout Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky. The website allows you to search for placements by county or region. While some companies may have out of state locations, only Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky opportunities will be approved for posting on MyCareerE3.
